Short presentation, "The Singualrity is Far," by Kevin B. Korb.
Korb does agree that a Technological Singularity is quite possible. He summarises I. J. Good's famous quote on the Intelligence Explosion—"In other words, A.I. implies Super A.I." But Korb addresses what he calls "arrogant optimism": mistaken predictions that people have made in the past with regard to Super A.I., such as:
- The only computer scientist to win a nobel prize Herbert Simon, 1959 said that AI would be around the corner in 10 years—would be competing for a nobel prize.
- Alan Turing (founder of both comp sci and A.I.) said that the turing test would be passed by 2000.
