It should say - EVOLUTION - COGNITION - SYNTHETIC LIFE- and MILITANT ATHEIST! Why is being an atheist a prerequisite on this website? I can picture atheists giving each other high-fives every time I read the irrational anti-creator comments inundated throughout the site. I thought I read "cognition" in the title?! Just because organized religions are flawed does not mean that the universe has no creator.
These are my thoughts, not influenced by religious or political agendas.

There are non-atheists here

Hello, Mike.

There are a few folks here who are not atheists. I'm a Baha'i, for example, and Andy (atofel) is a Christian. I'm pretty sure there are others out there.

I've been enjoying the blogs and comments and this is the first time I've wandered over to the forums. Stick around. Pull up a virtual chair. Stay awhile :)

mikedurland writes, "Just because organized religions are flawed does not mean that the universe has no creator."

You are right but it is up to you to prove that it does, Mike. The fact that you can't understand how it could not have a creator just reflects on your own mental processes, or lack thereof. And lets state things correctly; organized religions are not flawed, they are wrong.

Being an atheist is not a prerequisite to being on this site; the fact that you are on here and, if you have read enough of the comments on the site to make the statement "irrational anti-creator comments" then you know that theists of all persuasions are on this site. That would probably explain who the "irrational anti-creator comments" are directed at, in case you can't intuit that. But being disengenuous is part and parcel of being a theist as your post so clearly shows.

You know, back when I was considering atheism, do you know what really made up my mind regarding the bankruptcy of theistic thought and its proponents? I might become like you; disengenuous and completely self absorbed. No different than any other uneducated "know it all" except god talks to you and we all have to listen to what you have to say, at least according to you. We "militant" atheists LOVE to see posts like yours; it shows clearly the cowardice, lack of character, intolerance and shoddy thinking that is required to be a theist. A more shining example of what is wrong with religion can scarcely be imagined than by reading the posts by theists on this site.

So please, continue to press on; you have no idea what a favor you are doing for us "militant" atheists. One other thing, let's be clear on the definition of what a "militant" atheist is; someone who actually presses theists to respond with some evidence to support their beliefs. I can see why that person is a threat to you and the other theists here. :)

Rich

Militant...

Dear Mikedurland-
Maybe it is because American English is not my first language - I have some problem with your use of the word "militant" in connection with the atheists who run this site.
In my 60 years of life I've seen militant people of all kinds, usually posing with an AK 47 or a grenade launcher, be they Hamas, Hindutva, Khmer Rouge or Azad Kaschmiri.
(I've come around a bit, as you see) Those are people who impose their opinion - usually a very, very deep felt and emotionally stabilized (often claimed to be god-given) point of view- by means other than discussion. Like the people who feel they must burn abortion clinics, or blow up Aussie Nightclubbers, etc.
The word comes from Latin and means fighter, and not in an intellectual way.

None of the authors here has ever done anything more destructive than calling a liar a liar, a bad concept a bad concept, and a cruel history a cruel history. They're not respectful here towards the cloth, but they're not militant.
I've seen more militancy in those "Town Hall Meetings" on Health Reform of the last months than here...

I don't mind

I am a Christian and I love the site. I am a computer programmer and I have always had an interest in AI. Even back in the days playing D&D, I had a special interest in Golems and "synthetic life". Furthermore, this site always posts good information about cancer research, I which particularly appreciate.

The anti-creator rhetoric doesn't bother me a bit. I have been debating atheists for years and I am completely used to it. At times it just revs me up for a good debate. When I have time, I actually seek out the "brightest" atheists I can find for a good discussion.
